AGC is working in partnership with communities in Gunungkidul Regency, located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta on the southern coast of Java, to develop a place-based curriculum focused on climate vulnerability, adaptation, and justice. The region sits on a karst limestone landscape where rainwater drains rapidly underground, leaving many communities with limited access to surface water despite seasonal rainfall.
As climate change intensifies longer dry seasons and erratic rainfall, communities in Gunungkidul are responding through locally led solutions such as rainwater harvesting systems, water-sharing networks, and community-managed water infrastructure. AGC is collaborating with residents to document these strategies and transform them into multimedia learning resources that include photography, interviews, maps, and first-person narratives.
The Gunungkidul curriculum integrates climate science, human rights, development studies, and political economy, inviting students to explore climate change as both an environmental and justice issue.

Earth Rising Foundation is a small climate justice foundation that seeks to amplify existing and emerging voices demanding a future based on cooperation and care for each other and the planet. We provide material support for climate activism and initiatives that raise awareness about the climate crisis.
